Marriage Registration

The Department and its sub-offices undertakes registration of the following marriages

  • Hindu Marriage Registration(In case where both the Bride and Bridegroom belongs to Hindu,Buddhist,Jain,Sikh)
  • Special Marriage Registration (In case where both/either the Bride and Bridegroom belongs to Christian,Muslim & other Religion)
  • Indented Marriage Registration (In case where marriage to be solemnized and registered in presence of sub-registrar)

Hindu Marriage Registration

Applicability
  • Either the Bride/Bride-groom (or) both are domicile to the territory of Puducherry
  • Neither party has a spouse living at the time of the marriage
  • The Bridegroom has completed the age of 21 Years and the bride age of 18 Years at the time of marriage
  • Both Bride and Bridegroom belonging to Hindu/Buddhist/Jain/Sikh by Religion
  • Marriage done through Temple/Iyer/Suyamariyathai (or) Seerthiruththa marriage
List of documents to be submitted
  1. Birth Proof for both Bride and Bride Groom

    Birth Certificate(or)Transfer Certificate(or)Mark Sheet

  2. Voter ID Card/Aadhar Card/Passport/Driving License of both Bride and Bride Groom
  3. Ration Card for Both Bride and Bride Groom
  4. Iyer Certificate / Solemnization Certificate (Original)
  5. Marriage Invitation (Original)
Procedure
  • Applicants can fill the application and book appointment online through e-Thirumanam Portal (or) By directly submitting the downloaded application
  • At the time of registration the Bride,Bride-groom,any one of the parent of bride and bridegroom and Three witnesses must appear before the sub-registrar
  • All the parties must bring any one of their original photo ID proof at the time of registration
  • After signing in front of the sub-registrar the marriage certificate will be issued
Note:
  • In case of directly submitting the application,after Verification of the documents marriages will can be conducted after a period of 1 Week / Willing Date(Subjected to the availability of dates)
  • In case of Application submitted through e-Thirumanam, the presentant can directly approach the concerned sub-registrar with all their relevant documents at their booked time slot
  • Original Photo ID Proof to be produced before the sub-registrar at the time of registration

Fees for Hindu Marriage Registration

Special Marriage Registration

Applicability
  • Either the Bride/Bride-groom (or) both are domicile to Territory of Puducherrry
  • Person belonging to any Religion as mentioned under Special Marriage Act, 1954
  • Marriages should have been solemnized already
Conditions
  1. A ceremony of marriage has been performed between the parties and they have been living together as husband and wife ever since
  2. Neither party has at the time of registration more than one spouse living
  3. Neither party is an idiot or a lunatic at the time of registration
  4. Both the parties should have been completed the age of 21 Years at the time of registration
  5. The parties are not within the degrees of prohibited relationship

  1. Birth Proof for both Bride and Bride Groom

    Birth Certificate(or)Transfer Certificate(or)Mark Sheet

  2. Voter ID Card/Aadhar Card/Passport/Driving License of both Bride and Bride Groom
  3. Ration Card for Both Bride and Bride Groom
  4. Solemnization Certificate issued by Iyer/Priest/Kazi in Original
  5. Marriage Invitation in Original
Procedure
  1. After submission of the application, with all the required documents a notice of special marriage for a period of 30 Days will be displayed
  2. In case application submitted through e-Thirumanam, the presentant need to submit the required documents physically and a notice of special marriage for a period of 30 Days will be displayed
  3. After completion of 30 Days of notice period, marriages will be conducted in the preferred date of applicant(Subjected to availability)
  4. At the time of registration the Bride,Bride-groom and Three witnesses must appear before the sub-registrar
  5. All the parties must bring any one of their original photo ID proof at the time of registration
  6. After signing in front of the sub-registrar the marriage certificate will be issued
Note:
  • After Submission and Verification of the documents marriages will can be conducted after a period of 1 Month Notice Period
  • In case of Application submitted through e-Thirumanam, the presentant can directly approach the concerned sub-registrar with all their relevant documents after generation of appointment slip for further processing
  • Original Photo ID Proof to be produced before the sub-registrar at the time of registration

Intended Marriage Registration

Applicability
  • Either the Bride/Bride-groom (or) both are domicile to Territory of Puducherrry
  • Any person belonging to any Religion as mentioned under Special Marriage Act, 1954
  • The Marriage to be solemnized and registered before the sub-registrar
Conditions
  1. Neither party is incapable of giving a valid consent to it in consequence of unsoundness of mind
  2. Neither party though capable of giving a valid consent, has been suffering from mental disorder of such a kind or to such an extent as to be unfit for marriage and the procreation of children
  3. Neither party has been subject to recurrent attacks of insanity
  4. The Bride-groom should have been completed the age of 21 Years and the Bride the age of 18 Years at the time of submission of application
  5. The parties are not within the degrees of prohibited relationship
Procedure
  1. After submission of the application, with all the required documents a notice of intended marriage for a period of 30 Days will be displayed
  2. In case application submitted through e-Thirumanam, the presentant need to submit the required documents physically and a notice of intended marriage for a period of 30 Days will be displayed
  3. After completion of 30 Days of notice, marriage will be conducted at presentant preferred date(Subjected to availability)
  4. At the time of registration the Bride,Bride-groom and Three witnesses must appear before the sub-registrar
  5. All must bring any one of their original photo ID proof at the time of registration
  6. After signing in front of the sub-registrar the marriage certificate will be issued immediately

Fees for Solemnization of Special Marriage
  • For Solemnization of Marriage  --  Rs. 20.00

Condonation of Delayed Marriage Registration

Applicability
  • Either the Bride/Bride-groom (or) both are domicile to Territory of Puducherrry
  • Any person belonging to any Hindu/Buddhist/Jain/Sikh Religion
  • Marriage should have been solemnized already but not registered
  • Marriage solemnization date is more than 5 Years
  • The Bridegroom has completed the age of 21 Years and the bride age of 18 Years at the time of marriage
Procedure
  1. After submissoin of the application, the same will be forwarded for verification
  2. In case the actual Marriage date is from 5 Years to 15 Years from the date of application, the marriage will be verified by District-Registrar
  3. In case the actual Marriage date is more than 15 Years from the date of application, the marriage will be verified by Collector-cum-Secretary(Revenue)
